Wednesday, Feb. 8

Feb. 8 to 19: I, Claudia: a play for age 11 and up, presented by Geordie Productions, about a 12-year-old girl struggling with her parents’ divorce, puberty and unpopularity, at Centaur Theatre. Watch a clip. Get tickets.

Friday, Feb. 10

Movie opening: Journey 2: The Mysterious Island, a 3D family adventure movie starring The Rock, Vanessa Hudgens and Josh Hutcherson, rated for age 8 and up. Read a parent-friendly review. See Montreal showtimes.

Saturday, Feb. 11

10:30 a.m. New Canadian Kid, a play presented by Black Theatre Workshop, about a boy facing the challenges of fitting in and making friends after his family moves to Canada, at Centaur Theatre. Adults $8, children $6. Get tickets.

Noon to 4 p.m.: Winter Carnival at Benny Park in N.D.G., featuring skating, sledding, inflatables, cross-country skiing and snowshoeing, plus campfire for roasting marshmallows, at 6445 Monkland Ave.

2 p.m.: Le Voyage, a puppet show for age 5 to 9, about a boy travelling with his mother through the snowy mountains of Japan, and what he learns along the way, at Maison de la Culture Ahuntsic-Cartierville, 10300 Lajeunesse, 514-872-8749. Watch a video clip.

1 p.m. Les Fables de la patère, a musical show for age 5 to 9, at Maison de la Culture Frontenac, 2550 Ontario St. E., 514-872-7882.

Saturday and Sunday, Feb. 11 and 12

Salon du livre jeunesse de Longueuil: A children’s book fair in Longueuil, featuring author readings, storytelling sessions, magic show and more, mostly in French. See full program.

Dorval Winter Festival: On Saturday starting at 11 a.m. at Surrey Aquatic Centre there will be pony rides, inflatables, hockey, mini farm and initiation to astronomy. On Sunday starting at noon at Dorval Arena, there will be a zip line, stunts, games, cartoonist, entertainers, inflatable slide and more. See full program.

Festival Feu et Glace in Repentigny: The annual two-week Fire and Ice festival features fireworks, ferris wheel, paintball, tubing, kicksleds, children’s ice slides area, ice sculpting, shows and more. See full schedule.

10 a.m. to 8 p.m.: Ice Pathway in Town of Mount Royals Connaught Park: As part of Centennial activities, an ice pathway is open for family skating. Music and animation Saturday, 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., Sunday 1 to 4 p.m. See full schedule.

10 a.m. to 6 p.m.: Je t’aime en chocolat, a two-day celebration of chocolate at Marché Bonsecours, featuring market of artisanal chocolate, demonstrations and chocolate fashion show. Free admission. See full schedule.

Feb. 11 and 12.: Animal winter carnival at the Ecomuseum, featuring animal olympics, owl encounters and other special activities.

Feb. 11 and 12: St. Rose en Blanc, Laval’s biggest winter carnival, featuring ice sculpting, pedal go karts, ice fishing, dog sledding and more, at 345 St. Rose Blvd.

1 to 4 p.m. Montreal Museum of Fine Arts drop-in family art workshop, focusing on still life with watercolours. Children can try using the art materials provided, with bilingual guidance from museum staff. Free. More info.

2 p.m. Valentine’s Day mouse workshop: Make a mouse Valentine’s greeting at Musée des Maîtres et Artisans du Quebec in St. Laurent. Registration required. Cost: $14 per family. More info.

2 p.m.: Les Petites Tounes perform Au Grand Galop, a musical show for age 3 to 9, in French, at Maison Culturelle Montréal Nord, 12004 Rolland Blvd., 514 328-4000, ext. 5640. Free, passes required.

Sunday, Feb. 12

11 a.m. Romanian musical storytelling show, in French, for age 3 and up; a sons et brioches presentation at Place des Arts. Doors open at 10:20 a.m.; pastry, juice and coffee available to the first 300 people. $8 per person, $25 per family. More info.

11:30 a.m., 1 p.m., 2:30 p.m. Dinosaurs of Canada: A workshop on dinosaurs for all ages, with a craft, at McGill University’s Redpath Museum. Registration required. Cost: $7 per child. 514-398-4092.

Noon: Family Snow Day in Montreal West, featuring sleigh rides, skating, face-painting, magic show at 3:15 p.m. and more at Hodgson Field, 220 Bedbrook St.

Noon to 4 p.m.: Winter Carnival in Dollard, featuring wagon rides, sledding, inflatables, skating, ice sculpting, games and more, at Centennial Park, Lake Rd. at Manuel. See full schedule.

Noon to 4 p.m.: Winter Fun in Ile Perrot, featuring outdoor games, archery, fishing, minor hockey tournament, at Pointe du Moulin park. More info.

1 to 4 p.m.: Winter fun in Boucherville, featuring skating, sledding, music, a mascot and hot chocolate (bring your own mug) outside Pierre Laporte Sports Centre, 460 Chemin du Lac. Event runs every Sunday until Feb. 26. More info.

Feb. 12, 1 to 5 p.m.: Winter festival in St. Laurent, featuring skating, games, workshops and animation at Cousineau Park, corner of O’Brien Ave. and Poirier St.

2 p.m.: Le Spectacle de l’Arbre, a musical storytelling show for age 18 months to 5 years, at Salle de diffusion de Park Extension, 421  St. Roch St., 514-872-6131. Free, passes required.

2:30 to 4:30 p.m. Canals, piping and juice boxes, a workshop for families at the Canadian Centre for Architecture that focuses on local and global water use. Free, but registration required. Also on Feb. 12 and March 4. More info.

3 p.m.: Animez-Vous, a selection of NFB children’s films, for age 5 and up, at Maison de la culture Côte des Neiges, 5290 chemin Côte-des-Neiges, 514 872-6889. Free, passes required.

4 p.m. The Crocodile Club, a film for age 8 and up, about a boy who has to take on a challenge to become part of the Crocodile Club, at Théâtre Outremont, tickets $6.95.

Ongoing Montreal family events

Feb. 3 to 20: Winterlude in Ottawa, featuring fireworks, ice sculpting, snowflake village with tons of kids activities, skating on the Rideau Canal and more.

Jan. 27 to Feb. 12: Winter Carnival in Quebec City: The annual winter blowout featuring an international ice sculpting contest, snow village for kids, sledding, ice rafting, many outdoor games, parades and more.

From Jan. 6: The Snow Village at Parc Jean Drapeau, featuring an ice hotel, maze and slide. Free for children 5 and under; $8.50 for children 6 to 12; $15 for students and seniors; $17 for adults 18 and over; $40 for a family pass for 2 adults and 3 children. Village is open 9 a.m. to midnight Sunday to Wednesday, 9 a.m. to 3 a.m. Thursday to Saturday. Tip: Skip on-site lineups by getting tickets online.

Jan. 14 to Feb. 26, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.: Winter carnival at Granby Zoo, featuring ice sculpting from 1 to 4 p.m., and fire-breathing performances 12:30, 1:30, 2:30 and 3:30 p.m., plus the opportunity to see many of the animals in a winter environment. More information.

Dec. 17 to March 11: Mount Royal’s skating rink is open, 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Sunday to Thursday, 9 a.m. to 10 p.m. Friday and Saturday. More info.

Nov. 24 to March 11, 2012: Toys 2, an interactive exhibition of Toys at McCord Museum. Based on the success of last year’s exhibit, the museum has put together a new show, with free educational activity workshops.  More info.

Oct. 20 to March 11, 2012: Dinosaurs Unearthed, an exhibition of life-sized, animatronic dinosaurs with some interactive elements, including a self-guided tour for elementary-age children, at the Montreal Science Centre in Old Montreal. Adults $11.50, children age 4 to 12, $8.50, family $36.50.  More information.

10 a.m. to 10 p.m.: The Old Port outdoor skating rink is open. More info.

10:30 a.m. to noon: Tiny tots mornings at the Atrium indoor skating rink on Saturdays and Sundays. Families with children age 12 and under are invited to skate with the Atrium’s mascot, and try the mini hockey area. Guided tour of the Atrium skating rink.
