Dec. 19 to Feb. 14: Caillou Discovers Winter at the Biodome. Children have the opportunity to meet Caillou, listen to a storytelling session, take a special winter tour of the Biodome and do some winter activities. From Jan 5., storytelling will be held Thursdays at 11 a.m. and weekends at 1:30 p.m. For more information, go to the info page on the Biodome website. Jan. 15 to 24: Montreal International Auto Show, featuring vintage and micro cars, cars of the future, as well as everyday models that visitors are welcome to sit in and try. Jan. 16 at 10:30 a.m.: Once Upon a Home, a Geordie Productions play for children age 4 and up, based on the responses of children around Quebec to the question: “What does home mean to you?” The play is at Centaur Theatre, 453 St. Francois-Xavier, Old Montreal. Jan. 16 to Feb. 21: Granby Zoo is open on weekends, from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Many of the animals are used to winter weather, and can be seen in the snow. Jan. 24, 1 to 4 p.m.: Family workshop at Verdun Circus School, suitable for around age 3 and up. Families get a chance to try several different circus acts: trampolines, acrobatics, juggling, balancing, fixed trapeze, etc. Each area has an animator supervising. Jan. 28 to 30: Kirkland Winter Carnival, with activities on Thursday, Friday and Saturday. On Thursday, the Amazing Survivor Factor Race begins at 5:30 p.m. at Meades Park. On Friday, it’s Family Bingo night with prizes (most popular event of the festival) at 6:30 p.m. at the Sports Complex. On Saturday, it’s family activity day from noon to 4 p.m., with food, sleighs, sledding, face-painting and crafts, marshmallow roasting, mini golf, ice sculptures and more at Meades Park and in the Sports Complex. Jan. 31, 11 a.m.: Coussins et Crossaints, a monthly musical performance for children age three and up, held by the borough of Outremont. This one, Sur Le Pont … du Violon, features a professional violinist and pianist doing jazz, world music, improvisation, as well as songs that will be familiar to children. Held at Centre Communautaire Intergénérationnel, 999 McEachran Ave. Cost: $7 for age 2 and up, includes a croissant and drink. Doors open at 10 a.m., show starts at 11 a.m.
Jan. 31: Lego Sunday for various age groups at Pointe Claire public library, 451 St. John’s Blvd. At 1 p.m. for ages 6 to 9 (in French), at 2:15 p.m. for ages 9 to 12 (in French), at 3:30 p.m. for ages 12 to 17 (bilingual). Discover the world of LEGO (including Mindstorms NXT robots) and admire some of the creations of two adult LEGO fans. The presentation will vary according to the age group.
